Summer Project - Unit 4

A major part of this assignment is research. During the summer break you are required to complete the following work:

• Choose a genre that you would like to work with.

• Research and analyse at least 8 films from this chosen genre. It is essential that these films cover a range of decades. You must write a minimum 500 words for the analysis of each film.

It is essential that you complete this work by Thursday 9th September (induction week) so that you can begin to plan potential ideas.

A2 Overview

The second year of your media course is based around one complete project. This is broken down into three units:
• Unit 4 – Research and development for Media Production
• Unit 5 – Media Production Project
• Unit 6 – Professional Practice in the Media Industries


For this assignment you are required to individually research and develop a 10 minute short film. To create your short film you must select actors that will be prepared to support you with your production. You will choose the locations that are most appropriate for your narrative but they must be agreed for health and safety purposes with Sarah and John. The work that you create is entirely your choice but it must include the codes and conventions of a genre film. It is also important to show an understanding of the ways that the genre has developed and attempt to create a product that fills a gap in the market.
